10, 20 and 40 Cubic Yard Dumpster Rental in Laval

In a private job-site driveway, no — and the Code de l'urbanisme goes further: there the dumpster is mandatory (s. 131). The moment it touches the roadway, a sidewalk, a shoulder or a bike path, the occupancy permit under by-law L-13087 applies, with no exception by sector: Laval has no boroughs, so no rule that changes from one neighbourhood to the next.

$53 for review and issuance, then a rate per day of occupancy: $26 on a local street up to 3 m wide, $106 on an arterial or a collector, and triple that on a high-density strategic segment. A week in a parking space on a local street therefore comes to $235 in municipal fees, against $795 along an arterial — our own calculations, made from the City's 2026 schedule. Add $132 if keeping traffic moving calls for work at a traffic light, and $26 to change the duration of a permit already issued.

Two drop-off centres, both on boulevard Dagenais Ouest: the Vimont ecocentre at 1205, and the dry materials receiving area at 4026, in Fabreville. Household hazardous waste is accepted at Vimont only; soil, sand, stone and peat at Fabreville only. Access is free up to 12 m³ per address per year, with a maximum of 3 m³ per visit and $29 per cubic metre beyond that. One scheduling detail catches people out: on June 24 and on July 1, Fabreville closes while Vimont stays open — on those two days, soil has nowhere to go on the island. Laval's first ecocentre, for that matter, only opened on June 15, 2022.

Only with an escort. Both centres are “reserved solely for people and businesses residing in Laval,” and when a company carries out work at a resident's home, the City requires that resident to come along, ID and proof of address in hand. Add the ceiling of 3 m³ per visit, the ban on trailers and dump trucks, and the fact that staff do not help with unloading: for a job site, the arithmetic settles the question on its own.

Part of it only, and through a narrow door. Construction, renovation and demolition debris is barred from waste collection, and the monthly bulky-item collection — 11 passes a year, everything picked up going to landfill — does not take it either. That leaves the bulky-item collection by appointment, which accepts a “mixed dry materials” category: drywall, construction lumber, plywood, asphalt shingles, windows with unbroken glass, plumbing and ceramic. The ceiling the City publishes is 2 m³ per address, each piece measuring at most 1.80 m and having to be carryable by two people without mechanical equipment — about 2.6 cubic yards, a quarter of a 10-yard.

For the municipal rules, yes: they are identical across the whole island. For the rest — streets, parking, ground — those three sectors have pages of their own: Chomedey, Laval-des-Rapides and Laval-Ouest. The 20-yard settles most of those jobs: drywall, cabinets, shingles and old flooring all fit. The household marker holds in one image, this size takes up about the size of a Dodge Caravan. As for the 10-yard, it is a 20-yard filled halfway: it lays the same rectangle on the ground without standing as tall, which makes loading easier but frees up no extra room in a short driveway. The 40-yard, for its part, assumes clear manoeuvring space for the truck.
