How much does renting a dumpster cost?

August 23, 2026 · 6 min read

There is no single price: the cost of a dumpster rental is built from five factors — the size (10, 20 or 40 cubic yards), the type of materials, the duration, the weight and your area. Delivery, pick-up, a number of days, a tonnage allowance and the PROTEC-O-SOL planks are always included. Send in your request: the exact, firm price comes back fast.

The price is always built the same way

Search “dumpster rental price” and you will find two kinds of answers: numbers without context, and asterisks. At Megabac we chose something else: no price list on the site, but the full recipe, published — the five factors every price is built from, everything included at no extra charge, and the only fees that can ever be added. The exact number comes as soon as you ask for it.

1. The size. 10, 20 or 40 cubic yards. The rule of thumb that keeps you from paying for too much: a 10 yard equals a 20 yard filled halfway — same footprint, just lower — and a 20 yard is roughly the size of a Dodge Caravan. Picking the right size on the first try is the first saving; the size guide places you at a glance.

2. The type of materials. Mixed dry materials — wood, gypsum, plastic, metal, shingles — or a dumpster reserved for a single material: soil-rock-sod, concrete, brick and mortar, asphalt. For heavy materials, the single-material dumpster includes a far more generous tonnage allowance: it is almost always the right call, and we tell you upfront.

3. The duration. Every rental includes 7 days — 15 for contractors. And a rule that works in your favour: as soon as you authorize pick-up by phone, the clock stops. Even if the truck comes a few days later, those days are not billed to you.

4. The weight. A tonnage allowance comes with every dumpster, based on the size and type you choose. Beyond it, the excess is billed pro-rated on the weigh ticket — never rounded up to the full ton. The maximum transportable weight is a road-safety matter: it is exactly what the single-material dumpster is built around for concrete, soil or asphalt.

5. Your area. The region and geographic zone influence hauling cost, and therefore the price. That is why a price stays indicative until we know your address — and why, with your address, it becomes firm and does not move.

What is included — and what never shows up on the invoice

Half of “how much does it cost” sits right here: what the price already covers — the same list for everyone, published.

Always included, no extra charge

  • Delivery and pick-up of the dumpster, both ways.
  • A number of rental days: 7 for homeowners, 15 for contractors.
  • A tonnage allowance, based on the size and type you choose.
  • PROTEC-O-SOL planks that protect your asphalt or paver driveway.
  • The dispatcher's advice: size, placement, your city's particular rules.
  • Same-day delivery when available.

Told to you straight

  • Deliveries generally happen between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., with no guaranteed time slot — we would rather tell you that than promise what no carrier can keep.
  • No hidden fuel surcharges, no file-opening fees: what is included carries no asterisk.
  • Weight overage is never rounded up to the full ton: it is calculated pro-rated on the weigh ticket.

The only fees that can ever be added

No hidden fees: the complete list of possible extras fits in this table, and each one is explained before it applies.

The extraWhen it applies
Extra daysIf the dumpster stays beyond the included days. From the moment you authorize pick-up, the clock stops — even if the truck comes later.
Weight overageBeyond the included tonnage, pro-rated on the weigh ticket. A heavier-duty truck may be required.
ScrapingIf frozen or stuck materials require an excavator to empty the dumpster — mostly in winter.
Wasted tripIf the truck comes out and the dumpster is inaccessible or has to be moved.
Prohibited materialsOil, paint, solvents, propane tanks, tires, chemicals, batteries: sorting fees apply if they end up in the box.

That is all — five cases. The house rule: the price agreed on the phone is the price on the invoice.

The exact number? It comes faster than you think

So why not publish a grid? Because no two projects are the same. The right price depends on your material, your driveway, your schedule — and a number posted without context almost always makes people pay for too much or pick too small. It is a company choice: we would rather have a human call than a cold price grid.

The trade-off is speed. Send your request through the form below: we call you back with the exact price, the recommended size and the earliest date. On the phone, two minutes is enough: we walk the five factors with you, and the price you get is firm. It is what our clients point out in their reviews — the fast answers, the polite crew, the service that follows through.

And working fast pays: the Libération Express credit of $50 applies when the dumpster is freed within 48 hours of delivery, during the March-to-October high season. The full detail, payment included, lives on the Pricing page.

The questions that follow the question

Why is there no dollar amount in this article?

Because a number without context misleads: it almost always makes people pay for too much or pick too small. The right price depends on the size, the material, the duration, the weight and your area. So we publish the full recipe instead — what sets the price, what is included, the only possible extras — and the exact number is given in two minutes on the phone, firm.

What exactly does the price include?

Delivery and pick-up, the rental days — 7 for homeowners, 15 for contractors — a tonnage allowance based on the size and type, the PROTEC-O-SOL planks that protect your driveway, and the dispatcher's advice. No hidden fuel surcharges, no file-opening fees.

How fast will I get my price?

Fast. On the phone, two minutes is enough: we walk the five factors with you and the price lands, exact. Through the form, we call you back with the price, the recommended size and the earliest date.

How can I bring the bill down?

Three levers. The right size on the first try — a 10 yard equals a 20 yard filled halfway, and we help you decide. The single-material dumpster for concrete, soil, brick or asphalt: its included tonnage is far more generous. And speed: free up the dumpster within 48 hours of delivery and the $50 Libération Express credit applies, March to October.
