Your driveway is protected

A full dumpster is heavy, and drop-off and pickup are when asphalt gets marked. Every Megabac dumpster arrives clean, safe and fitted with the exclusive PROTEC-O-SOL system: built-in planks that spread the load and protect your asphalt, concrete or paved driveway. Nothing to supply, nothing extra to pay.

A tip from our drivers, for total protection

Even with the planks, the dumpster is still a steel box. Before the truck arrives, lay down four flattened cardboard boxes — or a thin sheet of plywood — where the dumpster will sit: the steel never touches your asphalt or your pavers directly. Two minutes of prep, zero worries.

Choose the right type of dumpster

Size is not the whole story: dumpsters are rented by material type. Each type goes to a different disposal facility — that is why mixed loads bring extra fees. One choice to make, five options:

Why it matters. A dumpster rented for concrete that shows up at the disposal facility with wood in it is refused at the concrete rate: the sorting gets billed back. If you have several types of materials, say so in the form or at 514 708-2424 — we point you to the right type, or to two dumpsters when that costs less than sorting fees.

Frequently asked questions — Saint-Ours

Does Saint-Ours require any authorization for a dumpster?

No municipal certificate exists for a temporary dumpster: the list in table 2 of by-law 2006-112 makes no provision for one, and nothing governs setting an object down on the street either — which is emphatically not permission to do it. One reservation is worth a call before delivery: section 6.2 of the zoning by-law allows « les poubelles, les conteneurs et les bacs à déchets » only in side and rear yards. The planning department settles it at 450 785-2203, ext. 105.

Does the city really require a dumpster to demolish?

Yes, and few by-laws are this blunt: section 3.13 of construction by-law 2006-111 states that demolition debris or materials belong in a waste dumpster set aside for that purpose. Add to it the prior certificate of authorization, the duty to water the debris, the ban on burning it where it falls, and a lot left clean within the fifteen days that follow the job.

Can the MRC ecocentre take my contractor's debris?

No. The regional ecocentre in Sorel-Tracy is free for residents of the MRC, but it puts the rule in writing: no material from commercial businesses is accepted. A contractor renovating here is therefore left without a municipal outlet. Even a homeowner has to load up, drive roughly twenty kilometres, then sort the load by hand on arrival — with no wheeled bin, since those are banned on the grounds.

Can a dumpster spend the winter at the roadside in Saint-Ours?

Worst idea of the season. From November 15 to April 15, nothing may be left standing on a public road between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., anywhere in the city, and the fine runs from $50 to $200 plus costs. Several village streets — avenue de la Traverse, rue de la Fabrique, rue Lemoine and rue Letendre — also forbid parking at all times. A private driveway settles the question.

Can your trucks use the rangs closed to truck traffic?

Yes. Signage shuts certain rangs to trucks rated at 4,500 kg or more — Ruisseau Nord, rang de la Basse at number 2135, chemin du Ruisseau — but section 12 of the traffic by-law exempts trucks that come to pick up or drop off goods. Two seasonal caveats: gravel stretches can close during the thaw, as rang Sarasteau did in May 2026, and one sector is reachable only by a private road in Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu that council calls impassable for heavy vehicles during a thaw or heavy rain. Give us the address and we check the access before we set out.

Which size suits a project in Saint-Ours?

For most renovations the 20-yard does the job: about the size of a Dodge Caravan, and that picture helps you site it in the driveway ahead of time. The 10-yard is a 20-yard filled halfway; it takes up as much ground while sitting lower, so it gains nothing in a tight driveway, though it is plenty for emptying a room or a garage. The 40-yard waits for demolitions and job sites that run long. Tell us the story of your project — 514 708-2424 — and the right size gets chosen with you.

Can soil or concrete travel with the rest?

No. Four of our dumpsters accept a single material, full stop: soil-rocks-sod, concrete, bricks and mortar, asphalt — and the slightest mixing comes back as sorting fees. What is dry and mixed does ride together: framing, drywall, metal, shingles, old furniture, in the mixed dry materials sizes of 10, 20 or 40 yards. One last tip from our drivers: slide four well-flattened cardboard boxes onto the chosen spot, or better still a slim sheet of plywood — planks underneath or not, what you are filling is a steel box.

And elsewhere? We checked the permit rule in every city we serve, by-law in hand — because it is never the same from one city to the next.

On the residential side

City status, village scale: 1,809 people live here across 59.1 km², the 2025-2027 assessment roll remains 58% residential, and the average home is valued at $492,452 in 2026. Job sites in Saint-Ours are house-sized, then, with room out front — except that zoning puts a number on that room: for any new construction, any extension or any new development, a residential access to the lot may not exceed 6 m in width, 11 m where two accesses are joined into one, and a lot with under 15 m of frontage gets a single access, full stop. Along route 133, outside the urbanisation perimeter, that access has to stand 30 m from an intersection instead of 6. A detail that hints at work to come: through by-law 2025-297, the city hands back over three fiscal years the property-tax increase produced by the reassessment to newly built homes inside the urbanisation perimeter, on permits issued from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2025.

MAMH mapping (February 2026), the City of Saint-Ours 2026 budget forecasts and by-laws 2006-109 (chapter 9) and 2025-297, verified August 17, 2026.

On the commercial side

The Saint-Ours roll is 36% agricultural, 2% commercial and 1% industrial: the MRC de Pierre-De Saurel describes itself as a rural setting covering 90% of its territory, with more than 300 farms. For anyone who bills for work here, a single sentence changes everything — the regional ecocentre warns that “no material from commercial businesses is accepted”. At that point the dumpster stops being a convenience and becomes the only route. Two trucking realities round out the picture. Signage bans truck traffic on rang du Ruisseau Nord, on rang de la Basse at number 2135 and on chemin du Ruisseau, but section 12 of the traffic by-law lifts that ban for trucks arriving to pick up or drop off goods — our case exactly. And the regular storing of a ten-wheeler is allowed only in the territory's I and A zones.

City of Saint-Ours 2026 budget forecasts, MRC de Pierre-De Saurel (overview and Écocentre pages), by-laws 2020-226 (ss. 10.7, 12 and schedule F) and 2006-109 (s. 6.7.0.1), verified August 17, 2026.

Winter in Saint-Ours

For five months nothing sleeps on the street: from November 15 to April 15 inclusive, parking or leaving a road vehicle standing on a public road between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. is prohibited across the entire territory, on pain of $50 to $200 plus costs. The temporary car shelter, for its part, is allowed from October 1 to May 1: seven months during which the tarp already holds the ground the dumpster is after, and outside that window it has to come down whole, frame included. A third constraint belongs to a village that follows the Richelieu: no used snow may be dumped within a 30 m strip along a watercourse. Clearing the streets and the rangs is contracted to Les Entreprises A. Daigle inc. The right reflex never changes: we choose the spot with you over the phone, before the snow chooses it for you.

By-law 2020-226 on traffic (ss. 11.1 and 13.2, text consolidated by 2025-291), zoning by-law 2006-109 (ss. 7.12 and 13.1) and the council minutes published in November 2025, verified August 17, 2026.

Why the drop-off centre is not enough in Saint-Ours

Admission there is free on proof of residency, so price is not the obstacle. Everything else is.

The ruleWhat it means for a job site
Free, but over thereSome twenty kilometres each trip, in your own vehicle, out to exit 135 of Autoroute 30
Businesses: the door“No material from commercial businesses is accepted” — on the municipal side, a contractor has nowhere to turn
Sorting compulsory on siteAnd wheeled bins are banned on the grounds, even to make the materials easier to carry
Three days in winterThursday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., December through March; Wednesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., April through November
Full site, shut gateAs closing time nears, access may be restricted or refused once the maximum intake capacity is reached

The curb takes up no slack either. Saint-Ours has one collection day in the week, Wednesday, with a garbage bin lifted every two weeks all year long. Bulky items go by seven times a year, in the first full week of the month from April to October — nothing from November to March — refuse construction materials, doors and windows included, stop at ten 9 kg bags, ignore whatever is left in a trailer, and what they do carry away heads straight to landfill.
