Your driveway is protected

A full dumpster is heavy, and drop-off and pickup are when asphalt gets marked. Every Megabac dumpster arrives clean, safe and fitted with the exclusive PROTEC-O-SOL system: built-in planks that spread the load and protect your asphalt, concrete or paved driveway. Nothing to supply, nothing extra to pay.

A tip from our drivers, for total protection

Even with the planks, the dumpster is still a steel box. Before the truck arrives, lay down four flattened cardboard boxes — or a thin sheet of plywood — where the dumpster will sit: the steel never touches your asphalt or your pavers directly. Two minutes of prep, zero worries.

How much does it cost?

Included in your rental

  • Delivery and pickup
  • 7 days of rental — 15 for contractors — whatever the size
  • The PROTEC-O-SOL protection planks
  • An included weight allowance, spelled out in your quote

What can be added

  • Going over the included weight, billed by the weigh ticket
  • Mixed loads in a single-material dumpster
  • Winter scraping fees, when materials have frozen to the walls

Choose the right type of dumpster

Size is not the whole story: dumpsters are rented by material type. Each type goes to a different disposal facility — that is why mixed loads bring extra fees. One choice to make, five options:

Why it matters. A dumpster rented for concrete that shows up at the disposal facility with wood in it is refused at the concrete rate: the sorting gets billed back. If you have several types of materials, say so in the form or at 514 708-2424 — we point you to the right type, or to two dumpsters when that costs less than sorting fees.

Frequently asked questions — Saint-Hyacinthe

Does a dumpster in Saint-Hyacinthe require a permit?

Not in your private driveway: the city's official permit list mentions none for a temporary dumpster on private land (at the slightest doubt, urbanisme answers at 450 778-8300, ext. 8321). The moment the box spills onto the street, a sidewalk or the grass strip between sidewalk and roadway, the Service du génie permit becomes mandatory — by-law 399, article 15.

How much is the street permit for a dumpster in Saint-Hyacinthe?

$160 for 7 consecutive days — exactly the length of the standard rental — or $108.50 for 3 days, when the dumpster occupies parking spaces, a shoulder or a sidewalk (2026 rates). A 14-day occupation adds up as two 7-day flat fees. On the roadway itself, plan on $201 or $438 for up to 100 m² instead.

Is the rue Brouillette ecocentre enough for a renovation?

No, except for a very small job: bricks, wood scraps and demolition debris are capped there at 3 m³ per visit — a 10-yard dumpster holds more than twice that — at one visit per day, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a trailer no bigger than 4 x 8 feet. Hauling away the equivalent of a single 10-yard load takes at least two to three weekends.

I own a rental building in Saint-Hyacinthe: can I use the ecocentre?

No: the RIAM deems non-occupant owners of rental buildings to be "carrying out commercial operations", and commercial waste is refused on site. To clear out a unit between tenants — an everyday situation in a city where nearly one dwelling in two sits in a small rental building — the dumpster is the direct route.

Where does debris from a winter job site in Saint-Hyacinthe go?

Into a dumpster, for lack of any other outlet: the ecocentre closes from December to early April, bulky-item pickup (three collections a year) refuses all construction materials, and the municipal depot on rue Lemire takes neither concrete, nor bricks, nor demolition debris. We deliver year-round — just keep the driveway spot clear of snow.

What size to empty a unit or redo a kitchen?

The 10-yard in most of those cases: same footprint as a 20-yard, just not as tall — the house image: a 20-yard filled halfway. For a full renovation or bulky debris, step up to the 20-yard — about the size of a Dodge Caravan. Still hesitating? Describe your project at 514 708-2424.

Can concrete travel with wood in the same dumpster?

No: concrete has its own dedicated dumpster, as do soil-rocks-sod, bricks and mortar, and asphalt. Those four sizes admit one material only — any mixing brings sorting fees. Wood, drywall, metal, shingles and furniture, for their part, ride together in the mixed dry materials dumpster of 10, 20 or 40 cubic yards.

And elsewhere? We checked the permit rule in every city we serve, by-law in hand — because it is never the same from one city to the next.

On the residential side

Here the plex wins out over the bungalow: in the 2021 census, 12,780 of the city's 26,870 occupied dwellings — nearly one in two — are apartments in low-rise buildings of under five storeys, joined by another 2,270 duplex units; single-detached homes account for only 34.3%. The catch: the RIAM deems non-occupant owners of rental buildings "commercial" users, so a landlord clearing out a unit gets no ecocentre access — a bin rental becomes the normal route. Add 41% one-person households and 26.1% of residents aged 65 and over, and estates and dwellings to empty are simply part of Maskoutain daily life.

Statistics Canada (2021 census) and riam.quebec, verified August 16, 2026.

On the commercial side

First Canadian city admitted to the international club of technopoles (1993), Saint-Hyacinthe concentrates 63.2% of the population and 77.8% of the jobs of the MRC des Maskoutains; the Cité de la biotechnologie agroalimentaire, vétérinaire et agroenvironnementale, opened in 2003, sets aside a full three million square feet for the sector's companies, according to the urban plan. And the city is blunt: stores, industries and institutions must hand their garbage over "to a private company" — no municipal service picks it up. 40-yard dumpsters for job sites, single-material sizes for concrete, brick or asphalt, and pickups timed to your schedule.

Urban plan (by-law 349, chapter 3) and st-hyacinthe.ca, verified August 16, 2026.

Winter in Saint-Hyacinthe

From December to early April the Maskoutains ecocentre is closed: a winter job site has no municipal outlet for its debris — the dumpster, on the other hand, gets delivered year-round. Out on the streets, the city plows the older neighbourhoods itself (Saint-Joseph, La Providence, Bois-Joli, Sacré-Cœur, Saint-Sacrement and downtown) and leaves the outskirts to private contractors; during snow-loading operations, the roadway may be cleared over its full width. The smart move: settle on a spot in the private driveway when you book — we pick it with you over the phone.

Why the drop-off centre is not enough in Saint-Hyacinthe

Access is free for residents of the 25 member municipalities, proof of residency in hand. Its rules, though, are strict:

The ruleWhat it means for a job site
3 m³ per visitThe cap for bricks, wood and demolition debris — a single 10-yard dumpster holds more than twice that
1 visit per dayAnd three opening days a week: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
April to late NovemberThe RIAM's 2026 season runs from April to late November; nothing from December to early April
4 x 8 ft trailer maxCars, vans and pickups only — and you unload everything yourself
Household loads onlyCommercial, industrial and institutional waste refused; a non-occupant landlord counts as commercial

The curb won't pick up the slack either: bulky-item collection passes only three times a year in Saint-Hyacinthe (weeks of May 4, June 29 and October 5, 2026) and expressly refuses "construction, renovation and demolition materials" along with soil, stone and concrete.
