10, 20 and 40 Cubic Yard Dumpster Rental in Sainte-Martine

Not for the dumpster itself, placed on your land — and here that is not mere tolerance. Table 5.24 of zoning by-law 2019-342 names « conteneurs à rebuts loués pour la durée déterminée des travaux de construction, de démolition ou de rénovation » and allows them in all four yards, front yard included. The list of certificates of authorization in by-law 2019-345 is closed and covers none; the 2026 fee by-law sets no charge either. One reservation: that same by-law makes a « conteneur de matières résiduelles et son enclos » subject to a certificate, which we read as the permanent container of a building. That is a reading, not a sentence — a call to 450 427-3050, extension 240, confirms it. The job site, however, often does need a permit, from 500 $ of work.

No. No Sainte-Martine text allows a dumpster on the roadway, and three point the other way: by-law 2026-502 prohibits depositing waste « in streets, public or private roads, public places, vacant or partly built lots »; the nuisance by-law prohibits harmful materials on a public place, with 24 hours to clean up before the municipality does it at the offender's expense; the parking by-law caps at eight consecutive hours the immobilization of a road vehicle. Add portions of seven streets where parking is prohibited at all times: Picard, Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul, Desrochers, Gervais, de la Butte and Alphérie-Beaulieu. So the spot is on your land — and zoning expressly allows you that.

Yes, and two separate by-laws say so. The applicant for a permit or certificate of authorization undertakes to « use a temporary job site waste container and provide proof to the designated officer » (by-law 2019-345, s. 2.6 i). And the construction by-law adds, without depending on the first: « For any construction or demolition project, the owner or the person carrying out the work must obtain a container to collect construction or demolition debris » (by-law 2019-344, s. 5.4). Both texts were adopted on May 14, 2019. In Sainte-Martine the rental invoice is not just a receipt: it is the proof the municipality asks for.

Yes — and that is rare. The Sainte-Martine front yard is closed by default: zoning permits « no building, construction, accessory equipment or projection from the main building » there, except what is marked with an « x » in table 5.24. The rented job site dumpster is marked in all four columns, and no specific standard is written under its line. Three reservations all the same: a main building must stand on the lot, the dumpster must be on the lot of the job site it serves — not at the neighbour's — and on a corner lot the visibility triangle prohibits any obstacle more than 70 centimetres high. A pure clean-out dumpster, with no work under way, is covered by no line of the table: that case gets confirmed with the planning department.

Table 5.24 allows it « for the set duration of the work » and writes no number of days for the dumpster. So we will not invent one for you. Two neighbouring deadlines exist in the same by-laws, but they cover other things: 14 days after the end of the work for a temporary job site building (zoning, s. 5.10) and 30 days for any device or equipment installed on a job site (construction, s. 5.4). After a demolition, the lot must be cleared of all debris and rubble within 7 days. For a job that stretches on, the planning department answers at 450 427-3050, extension 240 — and on our side, pick-up is planned around how your work progresses.

For a car trunk, yes, and better than elsewhere: the drop-off centre at 75 rue Saint-Joseph accepts concrete, brick, mortar and stone or asphalt residue, as aggregate under 45 cm across. For a job site, no. Each visit is capped at a 120 × 240 × 60 cm trailer load, that is 1.73 m³, and at 15 visits per calendar year counted per address: 25.9 m³ in all, less than the volume of a single 40 cubic yard dumpster (30.6 m³). A 10 yard box is worth about 4.4 visits, a 20 yard 8.8. Tipping trailers are prohibited and those vehicles « are not allowed on site »: everything comes out by hand, with no crushing or dismantling. And from November to March it opens only every other Wednesday and every other Saturday.

No, unless accompanied. The municipal page says it in two words — « Entrepreneur non autorisé » — and by-law 2019-349 expressly excludes « contractors, businesses, industries and institutions » from its definition of an eligible client. The only door: « a contractor carrying out work on a dwelling unit must, in order to access and use the drop-off centre, be accompanied by the resident or the owner », who hands the attendant a certified copy of the construction or renovation permit, or of the contract between them. Add that no vehicle over 11 m is admitted, nor any cube truck over 8.3 m, and that tipping trailers are prohibited: on a Sainte-Martine job site, the dumpster is not a convenience option.

That is the right question in Sainte-Martine, because crushed stone is an expressly permitted parking area surface here, on the same footing as asphalt, concrete and interlocking pavers (by-law 2019-342, s. 12.14).
