10, 20 and 40 Cubic Yard Dumpster Rental in Beauharnois

On the street, on the sidewalk, in the ditch or in the right-of-way: yes. Beauharnois has an entire by-law devoted to it, 2024-10, adopted August 20, 2024, whose section 2.1 states that « no one may occupy public property » without authorization. On your own land: no provision requiring a permit for a temporary dumpster was found in the four by-laws we read in full — 2024-10, 2025-13 (nuisances), 2025-31 (waste) and 2022-18 (parking) — nor in the town's list of eighteen online permits. We stop there: zoning by-law 701 could not be consulted, so we do not write « no permit is required ». Not without authorization, and authorization is never a given. The temporary public-property occupancy permit « is discretionary » (by-law 2024-10, s. 2.8) and the town « does not have to give reasons for any refusal » (s. 2.16); it may require a financial guarantee (s. 2.20), even a land surveyor's location certificate (s. 2.21 a), revoke at any time (s. 2.22), remove the installation itself (s. 2.24) and bill you for it (s. 2.25). The street is closed in other ways too: a non-motorized vehicle may not stay more than 4 consecutive hours in the same spot on a public road (by-law 2022-18, s. 9.4.1), parking in front of a private driveway is prohibited (s. 9.3), and encroaching « in any way whatsoever on a street or any other public place » is a prohibited nuisance (by-law 2025-13, s. 3.13 e). The grass strip in front of your home is not your land either: anything placed there falls under the public-property occupancy by-law. So the spot is in your driveway — that is where we deliver.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and not a minute more. Section 2.6 of by-law 2025-13 prohibits foundation, erection, maintenance, renovation, repair, alteration and demolition work « Monday to Friday between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., and on weekends and holidays between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. », preparatory ground work included. That leaves 14 hours on weekdays (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and 6 hours on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Section 2.7 applies the same hours to chainsaws, mowers and any noisy device, and section 1.2 sets the continuous-noise threshold at 55 dB by day and 50 dB at night, measured at the property line of the building the complaint comes from. The by-law targets the work, not the dumpster delivery: we pick the time with you so the box is there when the window opens.

Nuisance by-law 2025-13 gives two markers. First a general rule: « Every lot must be free at all times of any debris, refuse, pile-up or nuisance whatsoever » (s. 3.1). Then a deadline: on a lot « where construction has been completed for more than 30 days », the presence of construction-material waste is a prohibited nuisance (s. 3.3). The same section covers storing materials « anywhere other than in the rear yard and in a disorderly manner ». We will not claim a dumpster alone settles how that section is read — the town reads its own conjunction — but a job site whose debris goes into a box and leaves with it has nothing lying around on day 31. Fines under the by-law run from 200 $ to 2,000 $ for an individual and 400 $ to 4,000 $ for a corporation, prosecution costs on top, each day counting as a separate offence.

For a car trunk, it is an option. For a job site, the arithmetic decides: each visit is capped at 3 m³, and a 10 cubic yard dumpster holds 7.6 m³ — at least three visits, materials sorted beforehand, « registration at the reception desk » mandatory and payment « by Interac only ». A 20 yard box (15.3 m³) alone exceeds the 12 m³ the centre allows per household per year, an annual quota then used up for the whole year rather than just for your project; beyond that it is 28 $ + tax, and 65 $ + tax if the materials are not sorted. A 40 yard box holds 30.6 m³, more than ten visits. Add what the centre refuses — branches, yard waste, leaves, roots, sod, garbage bags — and the fact that « if there is any doubt about where the materials came from, a building permit or an inspection could be required ». None of which changes section 6.3 of by-law 2025-31: hauling your job-site debris is yours to arrange, « by their own means and at their own expense », the text says.

Three things. Volume first: at the drop-off centre, a business, retailer, institution or registered farm pays 85 $ per 3 m³ visit for sorted materials and 105 $ if they are not — three visits for the equivalent of a single 10 yard box. The building next: by-law 2025-31 requires a semi-buried container for any building of 8 dwellings or more built from August 1, 2014 onward, and caps bins elsewhere (one dwelling: one bin; three to seven dwellings: three bins). Risk last: a corporation faces 200 $ to 600 $ under the public-domain occupancy by-law, 400 $ to 4,000 $ under the nuisance by-law and 100 $ to 2,000 $ under the waste by-law, costs on top, each day counting separately. In the driveway, and the room is reserved ahead. From December 1 to April 1, parking is prohibited at all times on the odd-numbered side of public roads, except on eleven streets listed by name, and it is prohibited on both sides between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. — the even side being lifted each day at 4 p.m. for the coming night only, with no permit sticker, and it is up to the citizen to check (by-law 2022-18, s. 6). Whatever gets in the way of work or snow clearing may be towed at the owner's actual cost (s. 8). In the driveway, the temporary car shelter takes the space from October 15 to April 1, up to 38 m² and 4 m tall, 2 m from the sidewalk and 30 cm from the lot lines. Five and a half months a year, the driveway must hold the snow, the bins, sometimes the car shelter — and the dumpster. That is why we choose the spot when you book.
