During work covered by a permit: no, the permit is enough — the planning by-law itself says it “gives the builder the right” to install and maintain on the site the “containers and devices necessary for the execution of the work”, to be removed within fifteen days after the work ends (by-law 2015-00, s. 69). Outside of work, no permit is provided for a temporary dumpster: the closed lists in sections 37 and 50 include none and the fee schedule charges for none — we word it carefully, because this is an absence of provision. Not without paperwork. Depositing an object on a public road, sidewalk or shoulder is an offence (by-law 1008, s. 49 — $50 to $75 plus costs), and depositing construction materials on public property is a prohibited nuisance (by-law 1010-01, s. 8.2.1). The only way through: “written authorization from the designated officer”, over at most one third of the road's width, with roadway damage repaired at the builder's expense (by-law 2015-00, s. 70). Add the 24 hour limit in one spot and, from December 1 to April 1, the overnight ban from midnight to 7 a.m. So the spot is in your driveway — that is where we deliver.

Often, yes — and with no dollar threshold, unlike many towns. By-law 2015-00 requires a permit for “interior or exterior repair or renovation work on a main or accessory building” (s. 37); only exempt are minor upkeep touching neither foundations, structure, partitions, doors, windows nor roof or wall cladding, painting, the winter shelter and the site building (s. 26). The typical dumpster jobs — a roof, cladding, a kitchen with partition changes — are therefore permit jobs, and the permit is precisely what carries the right to the dumpster (s. 69). 2026 fee: $115 up to $5,000 of work, then $5.15 per $1,000. The town announces “minimum 30 business days” of processing once the file is complete: apply before ordering the box.

For a car trunk, yes — and it is generous: concrete, asphalt, brick, shingles, gypsum, wood even treated, and uncontaminated soil are accepted. But Sainte-Catherine's drop-off centre is Saint-Constant's, at 25 montée Lasaline, and it rations: “a maximum of 3 m³ (the size of a small trailer) is allowed per visit. 1 visit maximum/week”, any excess refused, hydraulic trailers prohibited, closed Sunday and Friday afternoon. Do the math: a 10 yard box holds 7.6 m³ — three weeks of quota on its own — a 20 yard 15.3 m³, a 40 yard 30.6 m³. A real job site does not go through there.

No, and the official page says it plainly: “the service is not offered to professionals and contractors”, and “commercial debris” is on the refused-materials list. No commercial fallback rate is published there. For a Sainte-Catherine job site, dumpster rotation is therefore the channel — with two local advantages: work and material deliveries are allowed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week (by-law 1010-01, s. 3.2.7), and the $50 Libération Express credit applies when the dumpster is freed up within 48 hours of delivery, during the March-to-October high season.

Yes, on the same hours as weekdays — that is the Sainte-Catherine advantage. The nuisance by-law only prohibits construction, alteration, repair or demolition work, “the delivery of materials” included, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. (by-law 1010-01, s. 3.2.7): no reduced Saturday or Sunday schedule, where many towns cut the weekend short. What remains is good neighbourliness and the general rule: any “excessive noise” is still a nuisance at all times (s. 3.1). The numeric thresholds of 55 decibels by day and 50 at night are set only for sound devices and heat pumps (s. 3.3) — they do not cover the work itself. We schedule deliveries and pickups inside that 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. window, weekends included.

No — and in Sainte-Catherine the question applies to every address, because zoning requires a driveway “covered with asphalt other than recycled asphalt, concrete, concrete pavers, stone pavers” or another hard-surface material (zoning 2009-Z-00, s. 111): every driveway is a surface worth protecting.
