In Saint-Joseph-du-Lac it is possible — but only by authorization, and it carries a fee. The drop-off centre page states that « material from contractors, businesses or industries is not accepted », and fee by-law 12-2015 repeats it in schedule G-1: « No material from contractors, businesses or industries will be accepted at the drop-off centre. » The service is reserved for residents, on proof of residence. On the collection side, a farm operation or a business is entitled to four garbage bins per address, two free and 100 $ each thereafter: nothing that absorbs a job site. The dumpster is not a convenience here, it is the only route — all the more so since the nuisance by-law makes a pile of construction material on a lot a prohibited nuisance.

Possibly, and it is worth a call before ordering the box. By-law 16-2024 lists « fill and excavation operations » among the works requiring a certificate of authorization. Its seven exceptions cover the rehabilitation of a contaminated site, public works, provincial authorizations, « moving soil within the same lot », residential fill done by an owner-occupant, specific permits and the replacement of a foundation drain — hauling soil off the lot is not named.
