What our drivers check before the box comes down

We deliver everywhere in Gore, from Lakefield to the lake roads, and the truck plans its move before it leaves. Here the question is almost never « am I allowed? »: it is « can the truck reach the house? ». Zoning gives the measure. The longitudinal slope of an access lane may reach 12%, and 13.5% over a length of 30 m, while the access to the lot itself is limited to 3% over the first three metres from the edge of the road surface. Beyond 10 m in length, the lane must be laid out winding, so that water and sediment do not run down to the street, and it stays at least 2 m from the side lot lines. So three things get settled on the phone rather than in the driveway: lane length, slope and turning radius. The size benchmark still helps — a 10 yard box is a 20 yard filled halfway: same footprint, simply lower — but in Gore it is the access lane that decides, not the box. And the GPS is not enough: under a by-law, five stretches of municipal road are closed and unmaintained — chemin Rogers, chemin McDonald, an unnamed street north of Lac Solar, chemin des Montagnes and chemin Densa. Access is verified when you book, not once the truck is committed.

The second thing our drivers look at is the culvert. In Gore a private driveway almost always crosses the roadside ditch, and that culvert falls under a strict regime: by-law 264 forbids anyone from installing a new one, or from modifying, renovating or replacing a component of an existing one — « only the Municipality, or its duly authorized agent » may do it. The imposed model is 9 m long, 375 mm minimum diameter (300 mm in some cases), in BNQ-certified high-density polyethylene, with a compressive strength « of at least 210 kPa to allow automobile traffic ». The riverside owner answers for its degradation « resulting directly or indirectly from their action or negligence », the Municipality may remove a damaged culvert without notice, and a new one costs 2,000 $ per intervention request (2026 fees). That is why, at your place, the right reflex is not to push the truck as far in as possible: it is to choose the dumpster's spot on the right side of the culvert. We talk it through when you book.

The third is the surface. For an off-street parking space, Gore zoning allows only four surfacings: a concrete or plastic cellular system, two running strips at most 30 cm wide in asphalt, concrete or paver — the space between the strips staying grassed or in its natural state —, gravel or crushed stone, or any other permeable surfacing. So the typical driveway here is not a suburban asphalt slab. Every one of our dumpsters arrives fitted with the PROTEC-O-SOL system, built-in planks that spread the load: nothing to supply, nothing extra to pay. On soaked gravel our drivers' tip counts more than anywhere else — a thin sheet of plywood, or four flattened cardboard boxes, on the chosen spot before the truck arrives. One last detail, and it is brand new: since August 5, 2026, a building more than 30 m from the road must display a second civic number at the roadside, near the driveway entrance, on a support placed within 5 m of the road — and « this support may not be a tree or a garbage box ». Digits at least 100 mm high, on a contrasting background. In a township of about 95 km² where more than 300 lakes and water bodies cut up the territory, that is exactly what a driver needs.

Contractors, cottages and estate clear-outs in Gore

Gore has no industrial park, no farming and no ten-unit building. The Argenteuil regional county's 2023-2030 waste management plan counts, for 2020, 2,115 dwellings: 1,612 single-family homes, 463 cottages — 22%, 40 small multi-unit buildings of 2 to 9 units, and zero buildings of 10 dwellings or more. The same source records a seasonal population of 2,000 cottagers against 2,053 permanent residents, for an equivalent population of 4,053. The dumpster market here is cottage renovation, rebuilding an ageing lakeside housing stock, and estate clear-outs — not the multiplex. For a contractor, the Municipality settles it for you twice over. First, the drop-off centre is closed to you: by-law 258 states « Contractors, industries, businesses and institutions are not admitted », and the 2026 taxation and fee by-law sets no commercial rate that would soften the sentence. Second, construction by-law 217 requires the dumpster of you: « During the work, a dumpster must be placed on the lot. » The same by-law sets the rest of the schedule: machinery, tools and equipment leave the lot within 7 days of the end of the work, and the lot is restored to a clean state within 14 days — the same delay after a demolition. Two site standards are worth knowing before you order: « all access ways to the site must be covered with stable, structuring materials », and a pile of excavated or fill material over 10 m³ may not be placed within 10 m of a street or a drainage ditch, nor within 20 m of the high-water mark. That is the most concrete argument for a single-material dumpster: the pile is regulated, the box is not. The 50 $ Libération Express credit rewards fast job sites: it applies when the dumpster is freed up within 48 hours of delivery, during the March-to-October high season.

Three logistical details we factor in by default. Trucks of 4,500 kg and over are banned from chemin Scott, chemin du Lac-Chevreuil and chemin Sideline, except to make a local delivery: so we do deliver to those addresses, but we do not use those roads in transit. Noisy work is prohibited between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., seven days a week — the public safety by-law draws no weekend distinction, which is broader than elsewhere; in a lakeside cottage area, a box slamming at 7:05 on a Sunday is still a bad idea. Finally, the urban plan prohibits landfills, dry-material dumps and extractive activities across the whole territory: nothing is disposed of in Gore, everything that leaves a job site leaves the township — that is our job, and it is already in the price.
