No, not if the dumpster stays entirely on your own property: neither zoning by-law 707 nor permit and certificate by-law 711 covers the temporary placement of a waste dumpster on private land. On public space it is the opposite — since June 2, 2026, by-law 1000 has required authorization from the Service du génie the moment you go past 24 hours. Handy rule of thumb: the 20-yard runs about the size of a Dodge Caravan. Watch out in Vieux-Varennes, where the heritage lots are small — a 10-yard takes up exactly the same footprint as a 20-yard, it is only lower, so it frees up no space in a short driveway.
