10, 20 and 40 Cubic Yard Dumpster Rental in Senneville

This is the one town where we do not write « no permit is required ». No Senneville by-law names a rental dumpster: the full-text search run on August 20, 2026 through by-laws 448, 451, 450, 482, 343 and 509 returns a single occurrence, and it targets the container turned into a shed — using containers « as a main or accessory building » is prohibited. But the list of certificates of authorization includes « the establishment of a temporary use or a temporary construction », defined as « a fixed or mobile construction, erected or installed for a special purpose and for a duration limited to that purpose », and the 2026 fee schedule prices it at 52 $. Not without a permit, and the text is blunt: « It is prohibited to use a road or street to store materials, receptacles or machinery of any kind whatsoever. » The word « receptacles » targets the object set down, not just the vehicle — a dumpster is one. The director general may authorize the occupancy of part of a street, the applicant taking « responsibility for any damage » and installing « appropriate signage, at their own expense ». Two municipal texts in force differ on duration: the parking by-law speaks of « a maximum period of two (2) days », while the public-domain occupancy page and the fee by-law bill by the day, renewable monthly for a long occupancy. A 20 yard box takes up roughly 6 m by 2.4 — about 15 m², so the first bracket. What surprises people is not the rate: the application must be filed at least 5 business days ahead and requires a « signage or detour plan […] signed and sealed by an engineer », plus proof of civil liability insurance on request. The village bills « about 2 weeks after the end of the occupancy period » and notes that rates « vary with the location, the total area occupied and the duration of the work ». A week on the street therefore runs into hundreds of dollars in municipal fees, before the engineer. In the driveway that procedure does not apply — what remains is the temporary-construction certificate question, to be confirmed with the village.

Because the nuisance by-law forbids it, and not only for hammer noise: it prohibits by name « the delivery of materials » Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Saturday before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m., and « on Sunday, on a legal holiday or a public holiday ». That last paragraph carries no time window at all: on Sundays and holidays it is the whole day. Our delivery and pick-up window in Senneville is therefore Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. That is tighter than in several neighbouring towns, and it is exactly the kind of detail that cancels a weekend delivery when nobody mentioned it in advance: a Saturday job site gets booked accordingly.

For a job site, no — and geography settles it before the rules do: Senneville has no drop-off centre, its « Écocentres » page redirects to the City of Montréal's, and the nearest of the seven is Saint-Laurent, at 3535 rue Sartelon, about 25 km away. Agglomeration residents get 12 m³ free per year, then 31 $ per extra cubic metre; a construction business pays 31 $ per m³ from the first one. The site is closed Mondays year-round and Sundays too from October 15 to April 14, the whole vehicle must measure under 11 metres, « no mechanical means (e.g. tipping trailer) may be used to unload materials » and staff « do not assist with unloading ». Conversion markers: a 10 yard box holds 7.6 m³, a 20 yard 15.3 m³, a 40 yard 30.6 m³ — a single 20 yard box already exceeds the free annual allowance.

No, and that is specific to Senneville. Zoning prohibits outdoor storage across the whole territory, apart from public and agricultural uses, and the list of permitted temporary constructions is closed: « temporary buildings, constructions and trailers required for construction sites » must be « installed on the site of the work », may be installed « at most 7 days before » work begins and must be removed « no later than 30 days after the end of the work ». A dumpster tied to a job site fits in that window; a permanent one does not. Winter adds its own constraint: « No person may place or leave, on public property or a public right-of-way, any objects that may hinder snow-removal operations carried out by the municipality », under penalty of a fine of at least 300 $, and each day counts as a separate offence.
