Size is not the whole story: dumpsters are rented by material type. Each type goes to a different disposal facility — that is why mixed loads bring extra fees. One choice to make, five options:

Why it matters. A dumpster rented for concrete that shows up at the disposal facility with wood in it is refused at the concrete rate: the sorting gets billed back. Driveway or street: when does Pierrefonds-Roxboro ask for a permit?

Not on your own land: the borough block is categorical, nothing has to be applied for “to install a waste dumpster on private property”. On the public way, yes — and the borough adds a sentence few others publish: public property is authorized only “if it is impossible to do so on private property”. Here, the street is a fallback, not a convenience.

What do five days of dumpster on the street cost here?

From $289, taxes included: $22 to issue, $22 in review fees and $49 per day for a street or sidewalk footprint that stays under 49 m². We write “from” because the borough block does not say whether lane-obstruction charges add to the surface ones; if they do, the same week reaches $564. Where is the Pierrefonds-Roxboro ecocentre?

There is none, and none anywhere else in the West Island either: the seven ecocentres of the Montreal network all sit further east, the closest being Saint-Laurent’s (3535 rue Sartelon). Watch for the trap: the Éco-quartier Pierrefonds-Roxboro, on rue du Centre-Commercial, does exist, but its record specifies that it “is not an ecocentre” and accepts no residual materials.

Can I set my renovation debris beside the black bin?

No. Since the fall of 2025, the borough picks up nothing but a single black wheeled bin with a European lift — 240 litres for a single-family home, 360 for a building of 20 dwellings or more — and “no overflow may be placed outside the black bin provided”. Plastic bags and metal garbage cans are no longer accepted, and household garbage refuses wood, gypsum, brick, concrete and asphalt shingles in any case.

Can a dumpster stay on the street through the winter?

In practice, no. From November 1 to April 1 inclusive, overnight parking is banned on every street in the borough between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., and once more than 2.5 cm of snow falls the ban covers the entire territory, daylight hours included, until operations end. Those texts aim at vehicles, but the room left for a steel box is nil: the private driveway is the only realistic route.

What hours allow construction noise here?

The borough allows construction work and job-site machinery “between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday to Friday, and between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays” — the wording is its own. That is a wide window, Sunday included, and it differs from what other boroughs allow: do not go by the hours you read on a neighbouring page. Delivery and pickup of the dumpster, for their part, run Monday to Friday.

After water damage in the basement, what size should I plan for?

Call us before you choose: water changes everything. The borough writes itself that the neighbourhoods and homes flooded in 2017 and 2019 “are liable to go through spring flooding again” and publishes a guide to preparing for high water. Gypsum, insulation, carpet and waterlogged furniture weigh far more than the same volume dry, while municipal collection stops at 25 kg per receptacle. It is the weight, not the volume, that dictates the size.

A suburb of driveways, counted out

At the 2016 census the borough held 25,385 occupied private dwellings, of which 12,905 were single detached houses — 50.8%. The gap with the rest of the island is impossible to miss: 10.9% in Saint-Laurent at that same 2016 census, and 7.1% for the city of Montreal as a whole at the 2021 census. The duplex, raw material of the Plateau or of Rosemont, weighs no more than 1.1% of the stock here, and 70% of households own their home. What that changes for a delivery: there is a paved driveway, a garage, a yard of your own — the box comes down on your land and the permit question never even arises. Add the age of the buildings, 57.2% of dwellings built between 1961 and 1990, 28.5% of them counting eight rooms or more: bungalows and cottages 35 to 65 years old, exactly the age at which the roof, the basement and the kitchen get redone. One yardstick before you pick a size: on the ground the 20-yard takes up about the size of a Dodge Caravan, and the 10-yard sits on that same footprint at a lower height — simpler to pitch waste in over the wall, without an inch gained in a short driveway.

Storefronts, and no industrial park

No municipal source maps out an industrial park in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, and we will not invent one: what the city documents here is a fabric of close to 600 commercial businesses. Boulevard Saint-Charles, “the longest north-south commercial artery in the borough”, runs up to Highway 40; the axis formed by boulevards Saint-Jean and de Pierrefonds makes up an “identity core” in the middle of redevelopment; Secteur Roxboro, built more than a century ago around its train station, keeps its own hub on rue du Centre-Commercial and boulevard Gouin Ouest. The REM stations Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Sunnybrooke are now in service, and the redevelopment follows. Refitting a unit, changing a banner, adding floor area: the 40-yard with scheduled rotations works better than a string of improvised round trips, and a demolition that separates concrete, brick and mortar or asphalt belongs instead to our single-material sizes, one per material. A word about the testimonials published further down, so that nothing is misread: no Google listing carries the Pierrefonds-Roxboro name. Six months when the street stops being an option

From November 1 to April 1 inclusive, overnight parking is banned on every street in the borough, between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. And as soon as more than 2.5 cm of snow comes down, the ban widens to the whole territory until operations end, “even during the day”: officers patrol and hand out tickets. Those rules aim at vehicles — no municipal source names the dumpster — but a borough that locks up its streets six months a year leaves little room for a 20-yard box parked on the roadway. The rest of the operation comes with numbers attached: clearing from 2.5 cm, snow loading between 10 and 15 cm, over 27 km of arterial streets (boulevards de Pierrefonds, Saint-Jean and des Sources), 20 km of collector streets (Pavillon, Sainte-Anne, Perron) and 214 km of local streets (Baldwin, Hélène, Deauville). One last reminder that matters as much for your snow-clearing contractor as for you: pushing or throwing snow onto the roadway and the sidewalks is prohibited, and the borough writes that “you are responsible for his work”. From November through April, plan on the driveway; if any doubt remains about a spot, 311 settles it.

Why the drop-off centre is not enough in Pierrefonds-Roxboro

Two local places keep the confusion alive and deserve to be named for what they are not: the Éco-quartier Pierrefonds-Roxboro, at 13 rue du Centre-Commercial, warns on its own record that it “is not an ecocentre” and “not a drop-off point for residual materials”; and the municipal drop-off site of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève (985 montée de l’Église) takes in residents of that borough only, twice a year, on proof of residence. What remains are the numbers that decide.

The arithmetic settles it fast: the free 12 m³ come to about 15.7 cubic yards, and one 20-yard box on its own (15.3 m³) leaves almost nothing of them — an allowance counted by the year, not by the job, and one you would have to empty by hand in as many trips as your truck bed imposes. The kerb offers no way out either: since the fall of 2025, only the black wheeled bin supplied by the borough is picked up — 240 litres for a single-family home, 360 litres for a building of 20 dwellings or more — and “no overflow may be placed outside the black bin provided”. As for the collection of bulky items and construction debris, it stays reserved for households, tops out at 5 m³ per address and turns away any receptacle over 25 kg, construction debris having to be tied into bundles of at most 50 cm in diameter and 1 m in length. Five cubic metres is about two thirds of a 10-yard: a bathroom fits inside it, a kitchen or a basement does not.
