Your driveway is protected

A full dumpster is heavy, and drop-off and pickup are when asphalt gets marked. Every Megabac dumpster arrives clean, safe and fitted with the exclusive PROTEC-O-SOL system: built-in planks that spread the load and protect your asphalt, concrete or paved driveway. Nothing to supply, nothing extra to pay.

A tip from our drivers, for total protection

Even with the planks, the dumpster is still a steel box. Before the truck arrives, lay down four flattened cardboard boxes — or a thin sheet of plywood — where the dumpster will sit: the steel never touches your asphalt or your pavers directly. Two minutes of prep, zero worries.

How much does it cost?

Included in your rental

  • Delivery and pickup
  • 7 days of rental — 15 for contractors — whatever the size
  • The PROTEC-O-SOL protection planks
  • An included weight allowance, spelled out in your quote

What can be added

  • Going over the included weight, billed by the weigh ticket
  • Mixed loads in a single-material dumpster
  • Winter scraping fees, when materials have frozen to the walls

The price depends on the size, the type of materials, how long you keep it — and your area. The form above or a two-minute call is all it takes to get your exact price, fast. Choose the right type of dumpster

Size is not the whole story: dumpsters are rented by material type. Each type goes to a different disposal facility — that is why mixed loads bring extra fees. One choice to make, five options:

Why it matters. A dumpster rented for concrete that shows up at the disposal facility with wood in it is refused at the concrete rate: the sorting gets billed back. If you have several types of materials, say so in the form or at 514 708-2424 — we point you to the right type, or to two dumpsters when that costs less than sorting fees.

Frequently asked questions — Montréal-Est

Does a dumpster in Montréal-Est require a permit?

Yes, whenever the dumpster sits on any part of the street, the sidewalk or the grass strip: by-law 116-2024 prohibits any occupation of the public domain without an authorization, and it names dumpsters in so many words. Entirely within your private driveway, no by-law names the temporary dumpster — have Services citoyens confirm your case at 514 905-2000, option 1.

How much does the occupancy permit cost in Montréal-Est?

$60 to issue plus $70 per day, at the first fee tier — an occupation of the roadway or sidewalk under 50 m² (by-law 129-2026, art. 25, before taxes). A week of dumpster rental on the street therefore means $60 + 7 × $70 = $550 in municipal fees, against $0 in a private driveway: that calculation is built from the city's published rates, and it weighs heavily in the choice of spot.

For how many days can the street host a dumpster in Montréal-Est?

Up to a year: the temporary occupancy permit covers a continuous period of at most one year (by-law 116-2024, art. 2.3.1), with no few-days cap. The real delay is upstream — an application at least 5 business days ahead and parking signs posted 72 hours before — then the daily rate runs for every day of occupation.

Is there an ecocentre in Montréal-Est?

No. The city refers its residents to the Montreal agglomeration network, whose nearest site is the Rivière-des-Prairies ecocentre (11400 rue Léopold-Christin, 514 872-0384): proof of residence on the island and photo ID required, 12 m³ of construction debris free per year, 15 visits at most, unloading by hand with no help from staff.

Does the City of Montréal-Est pick up renovation debris?

Yes, for residential buildings only: construction, renovation and demolition debris is collected on Wednesdays, with the garbage, on request to Services citoyens, capped at 5 m³ per week — and never in the black bin. Businesses and contractors are not eligible; for them, as for any volume past 5 m³, the dumpster does the job.

Which materials go in which dumpster?

The mixed dry materials dumpster — 10, 20 or 40 yards — takes the mix: drywall, wood, shingles, furniture or metal. Each single-material dumpster takes only its own: soil-rocks-sod, concrete, bricks and mortar, or asphalt — any mixing there brings sorting fees. Everywhere, tires are refused, and so are chemicals — paint, solvents, oils, propane, aerosols, acids.

How do you get the Libération Express credit?

Free up the dumpster within the 48 hours that follow delivery, and $50 comes back to your credit card: the amount is taken off any extras, or reimbursed whole when there are none. Beyond 48 hours, the 7-day rental simply runs its course. Offer valid during high season (March to October).

And elsewhere? We checked the permit rule in every city we serve, by-law in hand — because it is never the same from one city to the next.

Areas we serve in Montréal-Est

We deliver to every neighbourhood in Montréal-Est — and we know the area.

Residential core (northeast end of the city)Downtown sector / Broadway AvenueVeterans' houses sectorGeorges-V Avenue residential stripHangar districtIndustrial sectorNotre-Dame and Sherbrooke streetsMarien Avenue and Joseph-Versailles Boulevard

On the residential side

Montréal-Est is a city in its own right, enclaved within Montreal: founded in 1910 and demerged on January 1, 2006, it is bordered by the boroughs of Anjou, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles and Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, with the river to the south. Its residential core sits in the northeast of the territory — Broadway, Laurendeau, Sainte-Marie, De la Providence and Des Vétérans avenues, Sainte-Julie and Victoria streets — rounded out by a strip of homes along Georges-V Avenue. At the 2021 census the city counted 4,394 residents, up 14.1% in five years, and 2,018 occupied private dwellings — but only 21.3% single-family homes, against 44.6% across Quebec: 75.8% of dwellings are apartments or plexes. The placement question — driveway, yard, or street with a permit — therefore comes up more often here than in the suburbs, and we settle it with you before delivery.

Statistics Canada, 2021 census, and Montréal-Est urban plan 57-2016, verified August 14, 2026.

On the commercial side

The 2016 urban plan describes Montréal-Est as “first and foremost an industrial city”: about 90% of the 12 km² territory is devoted to industrial uses — oil, chemicals, metallurgy — which then provided 74% of the city's tax revenue. Alongside them sit the Port of Montreal intermodal hub, under federal jurisdiction, the Lafarge quarry — “still active” according to that same plan — and the hangar district inherited from the Second World War. The trucking plan keeps freight on the major axes: Henri-Bourassa, Métropolitain, Joseph-Versailles, Marien Avenue north of Sherbrooke, Broadway Nord, Sherbrooke, Notre-Dame and Durocher Avenue. And by-law 39-2014 expressly allows trucks to travel “throughout the territory and at all times” for a local delivery: our dumpster deliveries are entitled to reach right into the local streets.

Winter in Montréal-Est

There is no blanket overnight winter parking ban in Montréal-Est: the city works with temporary signage — orange notices posted before each snow-loading operation. Plowing starts once 2.5 cm is on the ground and covers the territory in 4 to 6 hours; loading, triggered at 10-15 cm, stretches over 3 to 4 days — a dumpster left on the street during that window complicates both the operation and your permit. In the front yard, car shelters are allowed from October 15 to April 15, two at most, at least 75 cm from the sidewalk: they occupy exactly the spot a dumpster would aim for. A reminder from our delivery drivers: the 10-yard has the same footprint as a 20-yard — being lower, it opens up no additional space in a short driveway. And dumping snow within three metres of a fire hydrant is prohibited.

Why the drop-off centre is not enough in Montréal-Est

Here is what that detour gets you, with montreal.ca's own figures.

The ruleWhat it means for a job site
12 m³ / yearA resident's free quota for construction debris — about 15.7 cubic yards, the volume of a single 20-yard dumpster; $31 per m³ beyond that
15 visits / yearThe cap for construction debris at Rivière-des-Prairies; visits are unlimited only at LaSalle and Saint-Laurent
By handNo mechanical means allowed, dump trailers included, and staff do not help unload; vehicle and trailer under 11 metres
$31 / m³ from the firstThe rate for construction businesses based on the island — no free quota; asbestos and contaminated soil refused for everyone

The city does also collect construction debris from residential buildings: Wednesdays, on request to Services citoyens, capped at 5 m³ per week, and never in the black bin. That service is residential only — a business or a contractor cannot count on it. Past 5 m³ a week, a bin rental takes over.
